Luna Park Sydney
DREAM CIRCUS
2023
Artists in Motion was commissioned by Luna Park, Sydney’s iconic amusement park, to create an exciting new immersive experience for the city. AIM answered the call and created Dream Circus, a 360-degree multi-sensory theatrical production, which runs multiple times a day.
In re-imagining the iconic entertainment venue, Luna Park became the inspiration for the show. Like the Big Dipper, Dream Circus keeps the audience entertained with surprising ups and downs, climatic rushes, jump scares and belly laughs.
The characters – Stanislaw the Magician, Samson the Strongman, Luna the Star, Pedro the Showman, the Dream Machine, and clowns Vlad and Estra – take part in a whacky circus narrative that challenges the distinction between what’s ‘real’ and ‘illusion’ for both the players and audience.
In under six months the team at AIM scripted, casted, designed, shot, composed, animated, and delivered Dream Circus. This included stripping the 3,000sqm interior of Big Top, Luna Park’s erstwhile multipurpose entertainment venue, and installing an impressive array of cutting-edge technology. High-tech theatre-like sets with textured walls and stages, 360-degree projections, motion-controlled LEDs, 3D and scrim technology, automation, and a spatially mapped audio system ensured the audience would be entertained no matter which direction they looked throughout the 60-minute show.
The experience begins in the circus-themed foyer, through crimson-lined corridors showcasing props and vignettes, and into the main auditorium where water ripples above you, illusions surround you, and enchanted spiders scuttle across your feet.
Welcome to the Dream Circus – where we dare to dream!
